“Sisters” now out in Swords & Steam

swords-and-steamWeeelllll it’s been a while since I posted here but I guarantee you it’s been a busy summer. Summer? Fall? Fall too. Anyway, one of the pieces of good news I have is that my short story “Sisters” was accepted into Swords & Steam, the latest in Flame Tree Publishing’s Gothic Fantasy series.

Like the other tomes in the series (yes, tomes), Swords & Steam is a big, beautiful hardcover book.  I’m in good company in this one, and can’t wait to read the rest of the anthology.

No shit, there I was… in a cool anthology

As you may have heard, there is a new anthology of speculative fiction coming up, in which every story must begin with the phrase “No shit, there I was…” The book is edited by Rachael Acks and will be published by Alliteration Ink.

The rationale for the anthology is explained in the video accompanying the Kickstarter campaign announcement. In response, Rachael received a huge range of stories, and chose tales for the book that range, “from hard science fiction, to high fantasy, from laugh-out-loud funny to tragic.”

‘Black Smoke and Water Lilies’ in Chinese Fantasy Stories

INSlogo2015-PNGIt’s official: my short story, “Black Smoke and Water Lilies,” is in the new edition of Insignia Volume 2: Chinese Fantasy Stories, edited by Kelly Matsuura.

If you’re not familiar with the Insignia series of anthologies, each one groups stories set or inspired by a different region in Asia. Volume 1 features Japanese fantasy stories and the upcoming Volume 3 features stories of Southeast Asia (submissions for that one are still open, by the way; the deadline is August 31).
